Box Office Hit 'Hanuman Ansh' Schedules International Release After Grossing Sixty-One Crores

"Hanuman Ansh," a low-budget Hindi devotional drama chronicling the life of spiritual figure Neem Karoli Baba, popularly known as Maharaj-ji, is set for a global theatrical release on September 11 after emerging as one of the most unexpected commercial success stories in Indian cinema this year. Production house Hombale Films announced that the film's international rollout will be handled through its overseas distribution arm, Hombale Overseas, in collaboration with local distribution partner Phars Film, bringing the spiritual drama to audiences beyond India for the first time.

The announcement comes after the film's remarkable domestic box office run, with its net collection in India reaching Rs 61 crore after 27 days in theatres, a striking outcome for a production made on a reported budget of just around Rs 2 crore. Directed by Vishal Chaturvedi and produced under the SWAMbhu Media Network banner, the film initially opened in Indian theatres on August 7 to a modest response, collecting only around Rs 8 to 10 lakh in its opening days across roughly 250 screens. Its theatrical footprint was actually consolidated to about 40 screens during its second week as its early box office performance appeared underwhelming.

However, strong word-of-mouth response and steadily growing audience interest triggered an unusual late surge, prompting distributor Cinépolis India to progressively scale the film's release back up based on centre-by-centre and show-by-show performance tracking. By early September, the film's release had expanded dramatically to more than 2,000 screens nationwide, its widest footprint since its original release, as exhibitors responded to sustained demand and strong per-screen collections. The film's total India collection crossed the Rs 50 crore mark before climbing further to Rs 61 crore over its fourth week in theatres.

The film's extraordinary return on investment has drawn particular attention within the industry, with its box office performance being favorably compared to that of significantly bigger-budget Bollywood releases in terms of profitability, despite operating at a fraction of their production costs. Announcing the global expansion, Hombale Films said in a statement that the spiritual journey of Maharaj-ji was reaching audiences around the world, expressing pride in bringing the story to a global audience through its international distribution network.

"Hanuman Ansh" features Shobhinav Satyaa and Chandan K. Anand in lead roles and follows the story of a grieving young boy who, in search of his late mother, embarks on a spiritual journey across the country in pursuit of the divine, ultimately discovering his purpose in serving humanity through devotion, compassion and acts of selfless service. The film is understood to be the first installment of a planned trilogy inspired by director Vishal Chaturvedi's own book, "Divine Detour."

The global release marks another step in Hombale Films' broader push to expand its international footprint, building on the studio's track record with previous pan-Indian hits including "KGF," "Salaar" and "Kantara," all of which found substantial audiences well beyond their original language markets. With "Hanuman Ansh" now set to open worldwide on September 11, the studio appears to be positioning the devotional drama as its latest effort to extend Indian storytelling to markets across North America, Europe, the Middle East and the Asia-Pacific region.
