Mohanlal’s Drishyam 3 Delivers Powerful Rs 15 Crore Opening In India
Drishyam 3 opens strongly with Rs 15 crore India collection.
Drishyam 3, starring Mohanlal, opened to a strong box office start on its release day, collecting an estimated ₹15 crore in India and registering a worldwide gross of ₹43.37 crore on Day 1. The latest instalment of the long-running crime thriller franchise hit theatres on May 21 and drew significant attention despite receiving mixed early reviews.
The film recorded a domestic gross of ₹18.37 crore, according to trade tracking estimates, with overseas markets contributing an additional ₹25 crore to its total earnings. The strong international performance helped push the global opening-day figure past the ₹40 crore mark, reflecting sustained interest in the franchise across key overseas markets.
Region-wise collections showed Malayalam audiences driving the majority of domestic revenue, contributing approximately ₹13.70 crore. Telugu and Tamil versions added smaller shares of ₹1.50 crore and ₹0.45 crore respectively, indicating that the core appeal of the film remains strongest in its home-language market.

Drishyam, first released in 2013, became a landmark success in Malayalam cinema and set a box office benchmark by crossing ₹50 crore. Its sequel, Drishyam 2, was released directly on OTT in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, continuing the story of Georgekutty and maintaining strong audience engagement despite the shift in release format.
Industry observers note that while Drishyam 3 has had a solid commercial opening, its critical reception has been mixed, with some viewers finding it less gripping than its predecessors. However, the film continues to benefit from the franchise’s established fan base and the enduring popularity of Mohanlal’s portrayal of Georgekutty, a character known for his emotional depth and moral complexity.
The film is directed by Jeethu Joseph and produced by Aashirvad Cinemas, with returning cast members including Meena, Ansiba Hassan, Esther Anil and others. The narrative continues the suspense-driven saga of a family navigating the consequences of past events while attempting to protect their future under mounting pressure.
