From ₹117 Crore Hit To New Markets: Bethlehem Kudumba Unit Goes Beyond Malayalam
Bethlehem Kudumba Unit expands to Tamil and Telugu markets after ₹117 crore success.
Malayalam cinema has found a major theatrical success with Bethlehem Kudumba Unit, which released on August 21 as part of the Onam season. Starring Nivin Pauly and Mamitha Baiju, the film has maintained a strong run in Kerala and other markets since its opening. After beginning with a solid response, the Girish AD directorial has emerged as one of the notable Malayalam hits of 2026.
The film is now expanding its theatrical reach with Tamil and Telugu dubbed versions releasing on September 4. The Telugu version has generated interest ahead of its release, with Mythri Movie Distributors adding early morning shows in Hyderabad. The expansion gives the film an opportunity to reach a wider audience beyond Malayalam-speaking regions following its successful run in Kerala.
Bethlehem Kudumba Unit opened with a collection of ₹4.90 crore on its first day, followed by ₹7.15 crore on the second day and ₹8.80 crore on the third day. The film subsequently crossed the ₹100 crore mark, with its collections continuing to remain strong. According to the figures provided, the film has recorded ₹231.25 crore in worldwide gross, including ₹119.25 crore from India and ₹112 crore from overseas markets.

The film’s second week also contributed strongly to its theatrical performance, adding nearly ₹58 crore to its India gross. As per the supplied trade estimates, its India net collection has crossed ₹102 crore. The sustained performance has placed the film among the Malayalam releases that have crossed the ₹100 crore mark in Kerala, while its continued theatrical run could see it challenge other major Malayalam releases of 2026.
Directed by Girish AD and produced by Bhavana Studios, Bethlehem Kudumba Unit blends romance, family emotions and nostalgia. The story follows Ashley, played by Mamitha Baiju, who moves with her family from Mundakayam to a new neighbourhood in Karukutty. There, she develops a bond with Justin, played by Nivin Pauly, an older neighbour, as the narrative explores relationships, memories and new beginnings.
After its theatrical run, the film is expected to premiere on JioHotstar, with the streaming rights reportedly acquired by the platform. However, an official OTT release date has not yet been announced. With the Tamil and Telugu versions now reaching theatres, Bethlehem Kudumba Unit is set to extend its box-office journey while targeting audiences across a wider section of the country.
