Amazon Cancels Varun Samantha ‘Citadel: Honey Bunny’, Priyanka Chopra’s Spy Series Eyes 2026 Return

Amazon Prime Video has cancelled two international spin-offs of its ambitious spy franchise ‘Citadel — India’s Citadel: Honey Bunny’, starring Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu, and Italy’s ‘Citadel: Diana’. The decision comes even as the main Citadel series, featuring Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden, is confirmed to return for a second season in 2026.

According to Deadline, Amazon will no longer pursue further seasons of the Indian and Italian offshoots. However, the storylines and characters introduced in both Honey Bunny and Diana will be woven into the upcoming season of the original Citadel, which was created by the Russo Brothers.

“While these successful and widely enjoyed international chapters will not continue as individual series, Citadel Season 2 will be our most exhilarating yet,” said Vernon Sanders, Head of Television at Amazon MGM Studios. “We’re excited to share what’s next when Citadel returns globally in Q2 of 2026.”

Released in December, ‘Citadel: Honey Bunny’ served as a prequel, with Dhawan and Prabhu playing the spy parents of Priyanka Chopra’s character, Nadia. Despite some praise — and even being considered stronger than the original series by some critics — the show was seen as one of the weaker entries in Raj & DK’s otherwise acclaimed filmography.

These cancellations follow the recent exit of Jennifer Salke, former head of Amazon MGM Studios, who had greenlit the Citadel universe and several other high-budget projects. Many of those shows have since been paused or scrapped.

Amidst this shake-up, unconfirmed rumours suggest that Amazon’s planned Tomb Raider series, reportedly starring Sophie Turner, may also be shelved. However, no official announcement has been made.
