Mohanlal's upcoming Malayalam film, Thudarum, has been officially announced for release on April 25, 2025. Directed by Tharun Moorthy, the movie is generating significant talk due to its intriguing storyline and the reunion of Mohanlal with veteran actress Shobana after 15 years. Based on the trailer released earlier, Mohanlal plays the role of Shanmugham, a taxi driver who shares a deep emotional bond with his vintage black Ambassador car. The story seems to blend elements of humour, suspense, and nostalgia. The trailer hints at a gripping mystery, with Shobana's character issuing a chilling warning about Shanmugham's attachment to his car, suggesting deeper layers to the narrative.
One of the most iconic pairs in Malayalam cinema, Mohanlal and Shobana have actually starred alongside each other in over 50 films. It began in 1985 with Avidathepole Ivideyum, the duo have acted in several landmark titles such as Nadodikkattu (1987), Vellanakalude Nadu (1988), Manichithrathazhu (1993), Thenmavin Kombathu (1994), Minnaram (1994), Pavithram (1994). They were last seen together in Mambazhakkalam (2004).
Thudarum features an ensemble cast including Maniyanpilla Raju, Farhaan Faasil, Binu Pappu, Irshad Ali, Aarsha Chandini Baiju, and others. Tharun Moorthy, known for acclaimed films like Saudi Vellakka and Operation Java, helms the project, which has screenplay co-written by him and KR Sunil. Music is by Jakes Bejoy.
The film is produced by M Renjith under the banner of Rejaputhra Visual Media.
