Yash’s Toxic Nears ₹350 Crore Worldwide Amid Sharp Box Office Slowdown

Yash’s Toxic nears ₹350 crore amid slowing worldwide collections.

Yash-starrer Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups appears to be heading towards a disappointing theatrical run despite its massive opening and pan-India expectations. The Geetu Mohandas-directed film, released on August 26, was promoted as a major comeback for Yash after the success of the KGF franchise. With a large cast, reported high production costs and expectations of entering the ₹1,000-crore club, the film was expected to sustain its momentum after release.

Toxic opened strongly at the Indian box office, collecting around ₹101 crore net on its first day and registering a worldwide gross of approximately ₹145 crore. The opening was among the biggest in Kannada cinema and ranked second among Indian films released in 2026 at the time. However, the strong start failed to translate into sustained collections, with negative early reactions affecting the film’s performance from its second day onwards.

The film’s India net collection fell sharply to around ₹37 crore on the second day, while its daily earnings slipped into single digits by its first Monday. As other releases gained audiences, Toxic also began losing theatrical shows. By September 9, its 15th day in cinemas, the film reportedly collected only around ₹60 lakh net across India, while its worldwide gross for the day remained below ₹1 crore.

As of September 10, Toxic has reportedly collected around ₹247 crore net in India, with overseas earnings of about $4.5 million. Its worldwide gross stands at approximately ₹339 crore, while trade estimates place its global net earnings at around ₹270 crore. These figures could have represented a respectable performance for a smaller production, but the film’s reported scale and high costs have made the numbers considerably less favourable.

The film’s exact budget has not been officially disclosed, with various reports putting the figure between ₹500 crore and ₹1,000 crore. Based on the lower-end estimate, trade calculations indicate a substantial gap between the film’s reported net earnings and its landing cost. On these estimates, Toxic could face a larger shortfall than Adipurush, which reportedly earned around ₹330 crore net against a budget of approximately ₹550 crore.

Directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic features Yash alongside Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Rukmini Vasanth and Tara Sutaria. The film attracted considerable attention before and after its release, but its box office trajectory changed dramatically after the opening day. With its theatrical run nearing its later stages and collections slowing considerably, the film’s final earnings are now expected to fall well short of the ambitious expectations surrounding its release.
