Sapthami Gowda Calls Out Paparazzi for Disrespectful Angles

Actor Sapthami Gowda has criticised sections of the paparazzi for capturing and circulating what she described as “inappropriate” photographs and videos of women actors at public events. The Kantara actor raised the issue through a note shared on Instagram, calling out unnecessary zoom-ins and camera angles that she said shift focus from an artist’s work to their bodies.

In her Instagram Stories, Sapthami wrote that repeated instances of such photography reflect a recurring problem faced by women in the film industry. She stated that videos and photographs shot from certain angles, often accompanied by close-up zooms, are disrespectful and unacceptable. Emphasising solidarity, she said women actors must stand together in addressing behaviour that objectifies them during professional appearances and promotional events.

Sapthami began her acting career with director Duniya Suri’s Popcorn Monkey Tiger and gained nationwide recognition after her performance in Kantara, which became a major commercial and critical success. Since then, she has emerged as one of the prominent young faces in Kannada cinema. Her remarks have reignited conversations around media ethics, consent and the portrayal of women celebrities in entertainment coverage.
