Kantara’s Brahma Kalasha: Bhushan Reveals the Sacred Secrets Behind the Iconic Dance Sequence

Kantara choreographer Bhushan blends tradition and artistry in the breathtaking Brahma Kalasha ritual.

Kantara: Chapter 1, directed by and starring Rishab Shetty, has captivated audiences nationwide, cementing its status as a box-office juggernaut under Hombale Films’ banner. At the heart of its pulsating narrative lies the breathtaking choreography of Bhushan, a seasoned dance maestro known to Telugu audiences from the reality show Dhee and hits like Kannu Hodiyake. In an exclusive revelation on October 10, 2025, Bhushan described his work on the film’s Brahma Kalasha sequence as more than choreography—it was a spiritual “dance drama” that demanded meticulous authenticity. His contribution has propelled him into the spotlight, marking his first major pan-Indian breakthrough after choreographing over sixty films.

The Brahma Kalasha sequence, a centerpiece of the film, weaves together ritual, tradition, and narrative depth, including a nod to the mythological tale of Shakuntala. Bhushan immersed himself in the cultural intricacies of the Kumbha Abhishekam and Brahma Kalasha rituals, consulting a priest from Kolluru and studying a detailed five-page document outlining every ceremonial step, costume, and movement. “The direction of each step mattered—it had to align with tradition,” he explained, noting how adjustments to lighting and reshoots ensured fidelity to the sacred essence. Shot over eight grueling days with 200 dancers, alongside music by Ajaneesh Loknath and cinematography by Arvind Kashyap, the sequence became a transcendent spectacle.

Bhushan’s commitment extended beyond technical precision, creating an atmosphere that mirrored a real ceremony. “Two hundred deepas glowed behind the dancers. The whole set felt otherworldly,” he recalled, sharing his conviction during filming that “this film will win.” His intuition proved prescient as Kantara: Chapter 1 continues to dominate theaters, blending mythic grandeur with emotional resonance. In contrast, Bhushan also choreographed a tender love track featuring Shetty and Rukmini Vasanth, offering a lighter counterpoint to the ritualistic intensity, showcasing his versatility in capturing the film’s emotional spectrum.

Reflecting on his journey, Bhushan credits Kantara with reshaping his approach to cinema. Unlike commercial songs chasing viral fame on social media, the film’s choreography prioritized cultural depth and emotional connection. “Kantara had a soul—it connected dance with tradition,” he said, emphasizing his commitment to sincerity across linguistic boundaries. His work on this project stands out as a career-defining moment, elevating him from regional fame to national recognition while reinforcing the power of authentic storytelling through movement.

As Kantara: Chapter 1 continues to enthral audiences, Bhushan’s choreography has become a talking point, blending devotion with artistry to create a cinematic ritual that resonates deeply. His ability to translate complex traditions into visually stunning sequences underscores the film’s universal appeal, making it a cultural milestone. With this breakthrough, Bhushan’s legacy as a choreographer who breathes life into narratives ensures that Kantara’s pulsating soul will linger in audiences’ hearts long after the credits roll.
