Kantara Chapter 1's Unstoppable Rampage: Rs 535 Crore Milestone Surpasses All Records
Kantara Chapter 1 crosses ₹535 crore in India, breaking major box office records.
Rishab Shetty's Kantara Chapter 1, the highly anticipated prequel to the 2022 blockbuster Kantara, continues its meteoric rise at the box office, crossing the Rs 500 crore mark in India over the weekend. Despite a brief dip in earnings during the previous week, the film roared back with double-digit collections over the last three days, pushing its domestic total to an impressive Rs 535.25 crore. Directed and starring Shetty, alongside Jayaram, Rukmini Vasanth, and Gulshan Devaiah, the mythological action-drama has captivated audiences with its rich storytelling and cultural depth, solidifying its status as a cinematic phenomenon.
The film's third Monday haul of Rs 11.75 crore aligned closely with its robust weekend performance, including Rs 12.75 crore on Saturday and Rs 17 crore on Sunday, according to early estimates from Sacnilk. In its explosive opening week, Kantara Chapter 1 amassed Rs 337.4 crore across all languages, with the Hindi version contributing Rs 108.75 crore and the Kannada original Rs 106.95 crore. The second week added another Rs 147 crore, underscoring sustained viewer interest. This prequel has already eclipsed the lifetime collections of major releases like Ram Charan's Game Changer (Rs 125 crore) and Salman Khan's Sikandar, while surpassing Salaar (Rs 406.45 crore) and Baahubali: The Beginning (Rs 420 crore) after breaching Rs 400 crore.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh highlighted the film's resilience, noting on social media that it has crossed the Rs 175 crore milestone in its extended run. However, he cautioned that upcoming Diwali releases on Tuesday could reduce screen availability and intensify competition, making its performance in the coming weeks a test of endurance. As the highest-grossing Kannada film of 2025, surpassing Su From So's Rs 125 crore, Kantara Chapter 1 exemplifies the growing pan-Indian appeal of regional cinema, blending folklore with high-octane drama to draw crowds nationwide.

This prequel delves deeper into the mythical origins of the story, offering a visually stunning exploration of tradition and conflict. With its box office triumph, Kantara Chapter 1 not only honors its roots but also paves the way for further expansions, proving that authentic narratives rooted in cultural heritage can achieve unprecedented commercial success.
