Darshan’s Court Outburst Over Jail Conditions Triggers Shock in Bengaluru

Darshan’s jail transfer plea denied after dramatic poison remark in court.

A Bengaluru court rejected Kannada actor Darshan’s plea to transfer from Parappana Agrahara Central Prison to Ballari jail, prompting a dramatic outburst where he requested “poison” due to deteriorating health conditions. Darshan, implicated in the Renukaswamy murder case, cited a fungal infection in his hands and lack of sunlight exposure for 30 days during the hearing, as reported by PTI. The judge sharply reprimanded him for the statement, warning against repetition, and found no valid grounds for the transfer, emphasizing adherence to prison regulations.

Darshan, along with actress Pavithra Gowda and others, faces charges related to the abduction and torture of 33-year-old Renukaswamy, a fan who allegedly sent obscene messages to Gowda. The court permitted limited concessions, allowing Darshan to walk within the prison premises and granting his request for basic amenities like an extra bed, pillow, and bedsheet, provided they comply with the prison manual. The court also cautioned that any rule violations could lead to disciplinary action, including potential transfer, as determined by the Inspector General of Prisons.

The high-profile case has drawn significant attention, with Darshan’s emotional plea highlighting the toll of incarceration on his health. The rejection of his transfer request underscores the court’s strict stance on maintaining prison protocols while addressing the accused’s basic needs. As the legal proceedings continue, the case remains a focal point in Karnataka, raising questions about prison conditions and the treatment of high-profile inmates amid serious criminal allegations.
