Bengaluru Actor Reports Severe Respiratory Discomfort From Garbage Burnt Near Residential Area
Actor Aindrita Ray suffers breathing issues as household garbage burns openly near her Bengaluru home.
Kannada Actor Aindrita Ray has highlighted severe air pollution in her residential area after discovering open burning of household garbage near her home in Ideal Homes, RR Nagar. The actor reported suffering from persistent congestion and breathing difficulties for three days due to thick smoke carrying the stench of burning plastic and waste infiltrating her house. Unable to endure it further, she personally investigated and recorded evidence of large piles of trash being set ablaze in an open ground adjacent to residential buildings.
In a video shared on Instagram, Aindrita expressed frustration, stating she had been struggling to breathe properly amid the constant toxic fumes. The footage clearly shows multiple fires burning unchecked, releasing dense clouds of smoke into the surrounding neighbourhood. She questioned the lack of action from civic authorities, emphasising the health risks posed to residents, including children and the elderly, from such illegal and hazardous practices.
Open garbage burning remains a persistent issue in parts of Bengaluru despite strict prohibitions under environmental laws and municipal regulations. The activity releases harmful pollutants, including dioxins and particulate matter, contributing to the city's already poor air quality, particularly during cooler months when inversion traps smoke near the ground. Health experts note that prolonged exposure can exacerbate respiratory conditions like asthma and cause long-term lung damage.

Residents in RR Nagar and nearby areas have frequently complained about similar incidents, attributing them to irregular waste collection and inadequate enforcement by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). Aindrita's public post has drawn attention to the negligence, with many social media users echoing her concerns and calling for immediate intervention to prevent recurrence.
Civic bodies are yet to respond officially to the actor's complaint, but such incidents underscore the ongoing challenge of effective solid waste management in India's rapidly growing tech hub. Authorities have previously imposed fines for open burning, yet enforcement gaps allow the practice to continue, affecting public health and environmental quality across multiple localities.
