Nagarjuna Recalls Son Akhil's Freak Accident, Says "It Changed Him Completely"

Actor Nagarjuna has opened up about one of the most difficult phases his family faced, revealing that his son, Akhil Akkineni, suffered a serious hand injury in a freak accident nearly two years ago that temporarily left him without sensation in one of his hands. Speaking at the success meet of Akhil's latest film Lenin, Nagarjuna said the incident marked a turning point in his son's life and personality, ultimately helping him develop a calmer and more mature outlook.

Akhil recently returned to the big screen after a three-year hiatus with Lenin, a film that delivered the biggest opening weekend of his career despite receiving mixed reviews from critics. Addressing the gathering, Nagarjuna reflected not only on the film's success but also on the personal struggles that preceded it, saying the family's focus had been on Akhil's recovery rather than making the incident public.

Recalling the accident, Nagarjuna said a piece of glass nearly severed a nerve in Akhil's hand. "Around one and a half years to two years ago, a glass almost sliced his nerve in a freak accident. He lost the sensation in his hand completely. We didn't know if he would regain that, it was a terrible time for all of us. Especially for me and Amala, we didn't feel like we could share it publicly either. But somehow, with physiotherapy and all of that, it took him six months to come back," he said.

The veteran actor added that the experience profoundly changed Akhil's personality. According to Nagarjuna, his son emerged from the ordeal with a newfound sense of calm and patience. "I think something changed then, something changed in him. He became calm... began to think the same way. These are all personal things that I'm telling you because now it's time to tell you," he said. Nagarjuna credited this change in mindset for helping Akhil approach both his personal and professional life differently.

Nagarjuna also spoke about Akhil's relationship with his partner, Zainab Ravdjee, saying it coincided with a positive phase in his life. "I think that calmness, he got a partner (in Zainab Ravdjee), his good time began. He shot this film with that thought process. I'm so happy that he's at that stage now. With no impulsive decisions, if he continues to think this calmly… Akhil, you have a fantastic future," he said, expressing confidence in his son's career trajectory.
