When Fairytales Fell Apart: 2025’s Most Dramatic Celebrity Divorces

A look back at the major celebrity divorces of 2025 across Bollywood, television, and Hollywood.

2025 proved to be a turbulent year for celebrity relationships, with several high-profile marriages crumbling under the weight of irreconcilable differences, domestic strife, and the relentless glare of public scrutiny. From Bollywood and cricket to Hollywood and regional cinema, the year delivered a string of separations that dominated headlines and social media feeds. As the year ends, the dissolution of these once-celebrated unions has left fans reflecting on the fragility of love in the spotlight, with divorce filings, custody battles, and viral Instagram announcements becoming the new normal for A-listers.

The most talked-about Indian split was undoubtedly choreographer-dancer Dhanashree Verma and Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal, whose divorce was finalised in March after four years of marriage. What began as a fairytale lockdown romance in 2020 descended into a messy public spectacle, complete with unverified Rs 4-crore alimony rumours, Chahal’s cryptic “Be Your Own Sugar Daddy” T-shirt posts, and speculation linking him to RJ Mahvash. The couple’s once-adorable dance reels were replaced by unfollows and deleted photos, marking one of the year’s most dramatic breakups.

Bollywood actress Celina Jaitly sent shockwaves in November by filing for divorce from hotelier Peter Haag in a Mumbai court, citing domestic violence and abuse. The couple, married since 2010 and parents to twin sons (one of whom tragically passed away in 2017 due to a heart defect), had already seen Haag initiate proceedings in Austria earlier in 2025. Meanwhile, Malayalam actor Meera Vasudevan made headlines for the third time, announcing her separation from cinematographer Vipin Puthiyankam after just 16 months of marriage with a bold Instagram post declaring herself “single again”.

Globally, Hollywood power couple Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck finally closed the chapter on their rekindled “Bennifer” romance, finalising their divorce in February 2025—barely three years after their Las Vegas wedding and lavish Georgia celebration. Similarly, after 19 years together, Nicole Kidman filed for divorce from country star Keith Urban in Nashville, with a detailed parenting plan granting her primary custody of their two daughters. Other notable international splits included British actress Jodie Turner-Smith and Canadian actor Joshua Jackson, whose contentious custody and child-support battles played out publicly throughout the year.

In the television and regional entertainment space, separations were equally prominent. Marathi classical vocalist Rahul Deshpande and wife Neha announced an amicable split after 17 years, vowing to co-parent their daughter, Renuka. TV actors Mugdha Chaphekar and Ravish Desai ended their nine-year marriage after living separately for over a year, while Shubhangi Atre (best known as Angoori Bhabhi) finalised her divorce from Piyush Poorey in February—tragically, he passed away two months later from liver cirrhosis.

As 2025 draws to a close, these high-profile divorces serve as a stark reminder that fame, fortune, and fairy-tale weddings offer no immunity against personal heartbreak. From quiet mutual decisions to explosive courtroom dramas, the year underscored a universal truth: even the most glamorous relationships can reach their expiry date, leaving behind lessons in resilience, co-parenting, and the courage to start anew.
