Priyanka Chopra returns to singing with Hindi-English ‘Last Christmas’ for Gurinder Chadha’s Christmas Karma.
Global star Priyanka Chopra Jonas has returned to singing after nearly a decade, lending her voice to the desi version of the classic Christmas song ‘Last Christmas’ for Gurinder Chadha’s upcoming film Christmas Karma. The track marks Chopra’s first major musical project since her international singles In My City (2012) and Exotic (2013) featuring Pitbull.
The Hindi-English blend of the song, with lyrics like Last Christmas de diya dil, retains George Michael’s original melody while infusing it with Indian musical elements. The song will feature in Christmas Karma, starring Kunal Nayyar, Eva Longoria, Billy Porter, and Boy George. The British filmmaker Gurinder Chadha, known for Bend It Like Beckham and Bride and Prejudice, directs the festive drama set for a November 14 release.
While some fans celebrated Priyanka’s return to music, social media platforms brimmed with mixed reactions after the song’s release. A Reddit thread featuring the track drew strong criticism, with users commenting that the new version “butchers one of the most iconic Christmas songs.” Others complained about the awkward mix of Hindi and English, while a few loyal fans admitted that “even love for Priyanka can’t save this song.”
