Priyadarshan Denies Claims of Tabu Being Upset Over 'Bhooth Bangla' Edits

Priyadarshan denies Tabu upset rumours over Bhooth Bangla edits

Actor Tabu is not upset with director Priyadarshan or actor Akshay Kumar over alleged cuts to her role in the film Bhooth Bangla, according to the filmmaker, who has dismissed reports suggesting a fallout or dissatisfaction. The speculation emerged after several media reports claimed that a significant portion of Tabu’s screen time was reduced during the film’s final edit, allegedly leading to disappointment on her part. Some reports also suggested that Akshay Kumar had influenced the decision to trim her role to increase his own screen presence.

However, director Priyadarshan has firmly denied these claims, stating that there is no truth to the rumours. Speaking in an interview, he clarified that as the director, he alone is responsible for the final edit and narrative structure of the film.

Priyadarshan also rejected suggestions of any tension between the cast members, especially between Tabu and Akshay Kumar. He emphasised that Tabu has always shared a strong professional relationship with him, having worked together on multiple successful films over the years, and would have directly expressed any concerns if she had been unhappy.

He further added that Akshay Kumar does not interfere in the editing process of his films and has never influenced post-production decisions. The director called the circulating reports baseless and urged against spreading unfounded negativity around the project.

Tabu and Priyadarshan have collaborated on several notable films in the past, including Hera Pheri, Virasat, and Kaalapani, building a long-standing professional association in the industry. Bhooth Bangla, a horror-comedy directed by Priyadarshan, marks his return to Hindi cinema after several years and reunites him with Akshay Kumar after a long gap. The film features Akshay in a dual role alongside Tabu, Wamiqa Gabbi, Rajpal Yadav, Paresh Rawal, and Asrani.

The story revolves around a supernatural legend in a rural Indian setting, blending comedy with horror elements as a wedding-related mystery unfolds in a haunted palace. The film has received mixed critical responses but has performed strongly at the box office, reportedly grossing over ₹200 crore worldwide since its release. Despite online speculation, the director’s statement indicates that the core cast remains on good terms and that the final version of the film reflects his creative vision without external interference.
