Family Before Fame: Salman Khan’s Story of Two Mothers and Unbreakable Bonds

As Salman Khan turns 60, a look at his unique family, two mothers, and enduring bonds.

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan celebrates his 60th birthday on December 27, 2025, marking six decades of life for an actor who has dominated Hindi cinema for over three decades with his charismatic screen presence, massive box-office draw, and devoted fan following. Known as "Bhai" to millions, Salman remains one of the most influential figures in the industry, blending larger-than-life roles with a reputation for off-screen generosity through his charitable initiatives. On this milestone occasion, attention turns to the unique family structure that has long served as his strongest support system, often described as unconventional yet deeply bonded.

Salman was born to legendary screenwriter Salim Khan and his first wife, Salma Khan (née Sushila Charak), who married in 1964. The couple has four biological children: Salman, Arbaaz Khan, Sohail Khan, and Alvira Khan, and they also adopted Arpita Khan. In 1981, Salim Khan entered a second marriage with veteran dancer-actress Helen, a union he has openly described as an "emotional accident" handled with honesty rather than secrecy. Remarkably, the two families have coexisted harmoniously, with Helen fully integrated into the Khan household, giving Salman and his siblings the experience of growing up with two mothers in a blended family dynamic that is rare in the public eye.

Salman, who has chosen to remain unmarried, is widely regarded as the emotional and financial pillar of the entire extended family. He maintains close ties with all his siblings and their children, frequently hosting gatherings at the iconic Galaxy Apartments in Bandra and the family farmhouse in Panvel. Arbaaz Khan, previously married to Malaika Arora, with whom he shares son Arhaan, remarried Sshura Khan in 2023; the couple welcomed daughter Sipaara Khan in October 2025. Sohail Khan, separated from wife Seema Sachdeva since 2022 after 24 years, continues to co-parent sons Nirvan and Yohan. Alvira Khan is married to actor-producer Atul Agnihotri, and their daughter, Alizeh Agnihotri, debuted in Bollywood with the 2023 film Farrey. Arpita Khan, married to actor Ayush Sharma, is a mother to Ahil and Ayat and often shares glimpses of family life on social media.

The Khan family exemplifies a modern, accepting approach to relationships, with Salim Khan's decision to embrace both wives and maintain unity setting an example of transparency and mutual respect. Salman has frequently spoken about the importance of family in his life, crediting the support of his parents, siblings, and extended relatives for keeping him grounded amid the pressures of stardom. This strong familial foundation has remained a constant through the highs and lows of his career.

Professionally, Salman continues to stay active in the industry. He recently concluded his stint as host of Bigg Boss 19, which ended on December 7, 2025, with Gaurav Khanna as the winner. Looking ahead, the actor is set to star in the upcoming film Battle of Galwan alongside Chitrangda Singh, a project anticipated to showcase him in a new avatar. As Salman enters his 60s, his enduring popularity, family-centric values, and ongoing work commitments reaffirm his status as a timeless icon in Bollywood.
