Ajay Devgn Says 'Drishyam The Conclusion' is Completely Different From Mohanlal's 'Drishyam 3'

Ajay Devgn is set to return as Vijay Salgaonkar in Drishyam The Conclusion, the third and final instalment of the Hindi crime-thriller franchise. The film’s trailer has been released, offering a glimpse into another chapter of Vijay’s efforts to protect his family while dealing with the consequences of events from the earlier films. At the trailer launch, Ajay Devgn addressed comparisons with the Malayalam franchise and said the upcoming Hindi film follows a completely different story from Mohanlal’s Drishyam 3. He explained that the Hindi team did not simply make minor changes to the existing storyline but developed an entirely separate script for the conclusion.

Ajay Devgn said the second Hindi film had been influenced to some extent by the original Malayalam franchise, but the new instalment has taken a different creative direction. According to him, the team itself was uncertain whether another film would be possible after Drishyam 2 because the franchise depends heavily on its twists, turns and carefully constructed storytelling. He credited director Abhishek Pathak for developing the screenplay and shaping the film in a way that expands Vijay Salgaonkar’s story. Ajay Devgn also expressed confidence in Pathak’s work, particularly his approach to the writing and execution of the third instalment.

The actor also said he would be pleased if Mohanlal and director Jeethu Joseph watched the film and appreciated the Hindi franchise’s interpretation of the story. Ajay Devgn said their approval would make him especially happy because the original Malayalam films established the central concept and characters that inspired the Hindi adaptation. While the two franchises share the same broad foundation, the upcoming Hindi film is expected to take Vijay’s story in its own direction. The distinction is particularly significant because Mohanlal’s Drishyam 3 has already continued the original Malayalam storyline, while the Hindi version is preparing to bring its own interpretation to a conclusion.

Drishyam The Conclusion brings back several familiar faces from the Hindi franchise. Ajay Devgn reprises his role as Vijay Salgaonkar, while Shriya Saran returns as Nandini and Tabu reprises her role as former police officer Meera Deshmukh. Rajat Kapoor is also returning, while Prakash Raj and Jaideep Ahlawat have joined the cast in new roles. Abhishek Pathak has returned to direct the film and has co-written the screenplay with Aamil Keeyan Khan and Parveez Shaikh. The project is backed by Star Studio18 and Panorama Studios, with Alok Jain, Ajit Andhare, Kumar Mangat Pathak and Abhishek Pathak serving as producers.

The Hindi Drishyam franchise began in 2015 with Ajay Devgn playing Vijay Salgaonkar, a family man who becomes involved in a complicated attempt to protect his loved ones from a criminal investigation. The film became a major success and established Vijay as one of the most recognisable characters in the Hindi thriller space. Drishyam 2, released in 2022, continued the story and performed even more strongly at the box office. The success of both films created considerable anticipation for a third chapter, particularly because the franchise is built around deception, investigations and unexpected revelations.

The Malayalam franchise has meanwhile moved ahead with Mohanlal and Jeethu Joseph’s Drishyam 3, which was released earlier this year and continued the story of Georgekutty and his family. Ajay Devgn’s comments make it clear that audiences should not expect the Hindi conclusion to simply reproduce the events of the Malayalam third instalment. Instead, Drishyam The Conclusion is positioned as an independent continuation of Vijay Salgaonkar’s journey, with its own twists and resolution.
