Shraddha Kapoor Plans Narayangaon Visit after 'Eetha' Title Objection is Withdrawn

Family withdraws objection as actor may visit village before film release.

The controversy surrounding the title of the upcoming film Eetha, directed by Laxman Utekar and starring Shraddha Kapoor in the lead role, appears to have been resolved after the filmmaker held discussions with the family of legendary Lavani artist Vitthabai Narayangaonkar. The film, which is scheduled for release on August 28, had earlier drawn objections from members of the artist’s family and representatives of a political-cultural body over its title.

Initially, Vitthabai Narayangaonkar’s grandson Mohit Narayangaonkar and Babasaheb Patil, State President of the Film and Cultural Department of the Nationalist Congress Party, had objected to the title Eetha, suggesting that the film should instead be named Vittha in honour of the late performer. However, Mohit later confirmed that the issue had been addressed after a direct conversation with the director, and that the family was now satisfied with the clarification provided.

Speaking to NDTV, Mohit Narayangaonkar said the filmmaker explained that the term “Eetha” was historically used in rural regions to refer to Vitthabai, and that the title was chosen to reflect local cultural usage. He added that the film portrays the Tamasha and Lavani traditions in a positive light and that the family had no further objections after understanding the creative reasoning behind the decision.

Mohit also revealed that the film’s team, including Shraddha Kapoor, is expected to visit Narayangaon ahead of the film’s release. He said the visit would take place before August 28 and expressed hope that the team would engage with the cultural roots of the region. He further noted that the filmmakers had shown openness to the family’s request for a possible local premiere in Narayangaon, which is regarded as an important centre for Tamasha tradition.

Babasaheb Patil also confirmed that the matter had been resolved after discussions between Mohit and the director, stating that the family had agreed to remain silent on the issue following the clarification. He added that while the team has indicated a visit involving Shraddha Kapoor and director Laxman Utekar, the full schedule has not yet been finalised. The film, which also features prominent actors such as Randeep Hooda and Nana Patekar in key roles, continues its promotional activities ahead of its theatrical release next month.
