No More Home Alone, Says Director Chris Columbus
Chris Columbus says no to new *Home Alone* sequel, calls it a mistake.
Acclaimed filmmaker Chris Columbus, the visionary behind the original Home Alone films, has firmly denied any interest in revisiting the beloved franchise. Despite ongoing speculation and interest from fans—and even the original star Macaulay Culkin hinting at a possible return for the right paycheck—Columbus believes it's time to let the classic stand on its own.
The director, who helmed the original Home Alone in 1990, said in a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight that attempting to revive the iconic film would only risk tarnishing its legacy.
“I think Home Alone really exists as—not a timepiece—but it was this very special moment, and you can’t really recapture that,” Columbus said. “I think it’s a mistake to try to go back and recapture something we did 35 years ago... I think it should be left alone.”

Home Alone, which starred Culkin as the mischievous and resourceful Kevin McCallister, was a massive box-office hit, grossing over $476 million worldwide against a modest $18 million budget. It was followed by Home Alone 2: Lost in New York in 1992.
The franchise later saw additional sequels with different casts, including Home Alone 3 (1997), Home Alone 4 (2002), Home Alone: The Holiday Heist (2012), and Home Sweet Home Alone (2021), none of which achieved the same level of acclaim or success.
Columbus’ comments may disappoint fans hoping for a nostalgic comeback, but for the director, the magic of Home Alone is best preserved in the past.
