Kichcha Sudeep Rallies Behind Director Prem Over Song Row Backlash
Kichcha Sudeep defends director Prem over controversial song in KD: The Devil.
Actor Kichcha Sudeep has publicly backed filmmaker Prem amid controversy surrounding a song from the upcoming Kannada film KD: The Devil. The track, titled Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke, has drawn criticism over its suggestive lyrics, prompting debate online and within sections of the film audience. The lyrics were reportedly written by Prem, adding to the scrutiny around the release.
Speaking at a recent press conference attended by the cast and crew, Sudeep defended the director and highlighted his long-standing contribution to Kannada cinema. Referring to Prem’s earlier work, the actor said the filmmaker had previously created songs centred on emotional themes such as family values and a mother’s love, many of which connected deeply with audiences and became widely appreciated.
Sudeep also suggested that criticism from outside Karnataka should be viewed in context, stating that people unfamiliar with Prem’s body of work may not fully understand his impact on the regional film industry. He said that while people are free to express opinions, the contribution Prem has made over the years should also be acknowledged when judging the present controversy.

Addressing the backlash directly, Sudeep added that he was not necessarily saying the song was a mistake but noted that sometimes creative choices may not work as intended. He said such situations are part of filmmaking and should not automatically overshadow a creator’s wider legacy or body of work.
The actor further expressed concern about the intensity of reactions on social media, suggesting that the filmmaker had been made to feel diminished by the tone of public criticism. The controversy around the song continues to generate discussion, while KD: The Devil remains one of the closely watched upcoming releases in Kannada Cinema.
