Kaantha Box Office Day 3: Dulquer Salmaan’s Period Drama Shows Dip After Strong Start
Dulquer Salmaan and Rana Daggubati’s period drama Kaantha opens strong despite minor box office dip.
Dulquer Salmaan and Rana Daggubati’s much-anticipated period drama Kaantha opened to good reviews and a solid start at the box office. The film, jointly produced by Dulquer’s Wayfarer Films and Rana’s Spirit Media, enjoyed strong word-of-mouth upon release but witnessed a slight drop in collections on its third day. Despite the dip, the film has maintained steady momentum across key metro circuits.
According to early estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk, Kaantha earned Rs 4.35 crore on its opening day and saw a nearly 15 percent jump on day two, collecting Rs 5 crore. However, Sunday brought a marginal decline, with numbers dropping back to Rs 4.35 crore. The film’s domestic total now stands at an estimated Rs 13.22 crore, while overseas revenue has touched Rs 5 crore. The Tamil version reported about 26.70 percent overall occupancy on Sunday, marginally lower than Saturday’s turnout.
The film continues to perform well in Tamil Nadu, with Chennai and Pondicherry leading ticket sales. Chennai registered over 390 shows with a 37 percent occupancy, while Pondicherry saw full attendance across 26 shows. In other regions, Mumbai logged 24 percent Tamil occupancy across 28 shows, and Delhi-NCR followed with 20 percent over 16 shows. The Telugu version, meanwhile, saw a 17 percent nationwide occupancy on Sunday, with Chennai leading again at 39 percent.

Ahead of its release, Kaantha courted controversy when the grandson of Tamil cinema pioneer M.K. Thaygaraja approached the Chennai court seeking a stay, alleging the film defamed the legendary actor. The court allowed the film to release but scheduled the hearing for November 18. Despite the legal drama, Dulquer and Rana’s film successfully released worldwide on November 14 and has since received praise for its ambitious scale and strong performances.
Also starring Bhagyashri Borse, Samuthirakani, and Bijesh Nagesh, Kaantha continues to attract audience interest, especially in the southern circuits. With favourable reviews and star power backing it, trade analysts say the film’s weekday performance will determine whether it sustains its initial buzz and crosses the Rs 25-crore milestone by next weekend.
