Diljit Dosanjh Explains Why He Cannot Visit Pakistan For Concerts
Diljit Dosanjh explains why he avoids performing in Pakistan.
Singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh has said that ongoing political tensions prevent him from performing in Pakistan, stating that the situation is beyond his control. During an Instagram Live interaction with fans, Dosanjh responded to a request to perform in Lahore, explaining that geopolitical issues make such travel difficult. His remarks come amid continued discussions surrounding his film Sardaar Ji 3 and the controversy over its casting.
Responding to the fan's request, Dosanjh said he tries to stay away from politics and described the issue as being driven by circumstances beyond the control of individuals. He remarked that travelling to Pakistan would create difficulties for visits to other countries and added that many of the current challenges stem from political developments rather than personal choices. The comments were widely shared on social media following the live session.
The controversy surrounding Sardaar Ji 3 began after it emerged that Pakistani actor Hania Aamir featured in the film. Following the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, 2025, the film was not released in India but was released overseas on June 27. Several Indian film organisations subsequently criticised the collaboration and called for the movie to be permanently barred from release in the country.

Earlier, in an interview with BBC Asian Network, Dosanjh defended the project by explaining that the film had been shot before relations deteriorated. He said production began when conditions were normal and that subsequent developments were beyond the control of the cast and crew. According to him, the producers decided to release the film overseas after recognising that an Indian release was no longer feasible, despite the financial losses involved.
Speaking about working with Hania Aamir, Dosanjh described her as a professional colleague and said he respected both her work and her privacy. He added that their interactions during filming remained professional and focused solely on the project. His comments were made in response to criticism over the casting following the change in the geopolitical situation.
The controversy also extended to Dosanjh's participation in the upcoming film Border 2, with some industry bodies urging producers to remove him from the project. However, speculation over his exit eased after the actor shared behind-the-scenes footage from the film's set, indicating that he remained part of the production. While debates surrounding Sardaar Ji 3 continue, Dosanjh has maintained that the decisions surrounding the film's release were driven by circumstances beyond the control of those involved in its making.
