Speculation surrounding a sequel to the 2009 blockbuster film 3 Idiots has now been clarified after actor Aamir Khan confirmed that a follow-up is officially in development. The original film, directed by Rajkumar Hirani, has remained one of the most influential and widely discussed Hindi films in recent years, and the announcement has reignited strong interest among fans.
In an interview with Amar Ujala, Amar Ujala, Aamir Khan stated that work on the sequel is currently underway. He confirmed that Rajkumar Hirani is actively developing the project and emphasized that the creative team is carefully shaping the story. According to him, the script is still in progress but has already taken a promising form.
Aamir also spoke positively about the writing team, including screenwriter Abhijat Joshi, noting that the concept has been handled with clarity and maturity. He described the storyline as “beautiful” and appreciated the way the narrative has been structured. He added that the humour and emotional depth that defined the original film will remain an important part of the sequel’s tone.

Revealing key details about the storyline, Aamir shared that the sequel will continue the journey of the same central characters from 3 Idiots, but will pick up the narrative approximately 10 years later. Released in 2009, 3 Idiots became one of the most successful and culturally significant films in Indian cinema.
