Kareena Kapoor Says She Has To 'Snatch Phones' From Sons Taimur, Jeh Over Screen Time

Bollywood actor Kareena Kapoor has opened up about the strict rules she follows to control her sons Taimur and Jeh’s screen time, admitting that she is particularly concerned about their growing exposure to phones, laptops and the digital world. In a recent interview with SCREEN, Kareena said she considers herself the stricter parent when it comes to technology, while her husband Saif Ali Khan takes a more relaxed approach. She said she often has to intervene when the children spend extended periods playing games on devices.

Kareena explained that her sons do not have direct access to mobile phones, although Taimur reportedly considers his nanny’s phone to be his own. Recalling a conversation with him, she said Taimur once asked whether he could tell his friends that the phone belonged to him, but she refused to allow him to do so. Kareena said she remains highly cautious about giving children unrestricted access to devices, particularly at an age when they are still developing habits and understanding the digital environment around them.

The actor also admitted that she can become “hyper” about screen-time limits and sometimes has to physically take phones away from her children when they continue playing games for too long. She acknowledged that her approach may appear strict, but said she believes firm boundaries are necessary to prevent excessive dependence on technology. Kareena’s comments reflect her concerns about how quickly children can become accustomed to digital entertainment when devices are easily available to them.

According to Kareena, Saif often feels that she is being overly anxious about the issue and should relax her restrictions. However, she said she disagrees with him and believes that being particularly alert about screen time is important while their sons are still young. She described the issue as one of the few matters on which the couple regularly argues as parents, with Saif adopting a comparatively easier attitude towards the children’s use of phones and digital devices.

Kareena further said that although she understands the need to keep pace with changing technology, she does not want her children to be exposed to it at a potentially harmful level. She also expressed concern about the growing influence of artificial intelligence, saying she feels paranoid about its impact on young children and that some aspects of the technology disturb her. At the same time, she stressed that technology and AI should not be rejected completely, but used in a balanced manner, with certain applications and forms of access restricted for children.

On the professional front, Kareena Kapoor is set to appear next in Daayra, directed by Meghna Gulzar. The film will also feature Prithviraj Sukumaran, with both actors portraying police officers. Inspired by true events, the project has been co-written by Meghna Gulzar, Yash Keswani and Sima Agarwal. Meanwhile, Kareena’s comments on parenting have drawn attention to the challenges faced by parents trying to balance children’s access to technology with concerns over excessive screen exposure and the wider influence of the digital world.
