Bandra police have filed a 1,613-page chargesheet against Bangladeshi national Mohammed Shariful Fakir for the January 16 knife attack on actor Saif Ali Khan at his residence, according to which Kareena Kapoor Khan swiftly prioritised safety and medical attention for her husband.
“Ye sab chhod do, pehle neeche chalo. Hospital chalte hain (Leave all this, let’s go downstairs first. Let’s go to the hospital),” Kareena reportedly urged Saif after seeing him injured, as detailed in Mid-Day's report on the chargesheet.
Kareena's prompt action ensured the safety of Saif, their two children, and household staff by swiftly escorting them downstairs via the lift upon realising the attacker was still inside the house, posing a continued threat.
The chargesheet outlines the timeline of events, indicating Kareena's arrival home at 1:20 am and the subsequent alert from Jehangir’s nanny about an intruder in the child’s room demanding money around 2 am.
“Around 2am, Junu (Jehangir’s nanny) came to our room screaming, ‘Jaybaba ke room me ek admi hath me chaku lekar aaya hai, aur wo paise maang raha hai (There’s a man in Jehangir’s room with a knife in his hand and demanding money),’” Kareena said in her statement, as reported by the Indian Express.
Saif Ali Khan confronted the attacker, leading to a scuffle where he sustained injuries to his neck, back, and hands from the knife. Saif's statement, backed by medical findings from Lilavati Hospital, revealed that a part of the knife was surgically removed from his back.
The comprehensive chargesheet includes statements from over 40 witnesses, detailing the arrest of Shariful in Thane on January 19 and evidence collection such as blood samples and fingerprints.
Shariful reportedly entered the building compound, climbed a pipe to reach the first floor, and then took the stairs up to the 11th floor. He tried to open doors on each floor before entering the Khans’ duplex on the 11th and 12th floors.
