Yami Gautam Opted Against Taking Son to 'Haq' Shoot Due to Tough Conditions

Yami Gautam chose not to take her young son to Haq’s interior shoot locations, calling it too difficult for a baby.

Actor Yami Gautam has shared the reasons behind her decision not to travel with her infant son during the shooting of her latest film, Haq, saying the demanding conditions of the shoot would have been “cruel” for a baby of that age. In a recent interaction, Gautam said she had initially planned to take her son along while filming but later reconsidered after assessing the nature of the production. She explained that the shoot involved interior and remote locations, which would have made it extremely difficult to manage the needs and comfort of a young child.

“The shooting would be in interior locations, which is cruel and difficult with a baby that age,” Gautam said, adding that her decision was guided entirely by concern for her child’s well-being. She noted that while balancing motherhood and professional commitments is challenging, prioritising her son’s health and safety was non-negotiable.

Haq, which recently premiered on Netflix, has received strong critical and audience response, with Gautam’s performance drawing praise from several members of the film industry, including Alia Bhatt, Aditi Rao Hydari, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, and Farah Khan. The actor has been widely commended for her restrained and emotionally grounded portrayal in the film.

The film is inspired by real-life events surrounding the Shah Bano case, which resulted in a landmark Supreme Court judgement in the 1980s. The verdict clarified that there is no conflict between Section 125 of the Criminal Procedure Code and Muslim personal law regarding a husband’s obligation to provide maintenance to a divorced wife unable to support herself.

Gautam’s comments have resonated with many working parents, particularly mothers in demanding professions. Her remarks highlight the personal decisions that often take place behind the scenes, even as actors navigate intensive schedules and high-profile projects.
