Vivek Oberoi Says Even Shah Rukh Khan Might Be Forgotten By 2050

Vivek Oberoi reflects on fleeting fame and how even today’s icons may fade from memory.

Actor Vivek Oberoi has drawn attention with a provocative statement suggesting that even today’s most influential Bollywood icons, including Shah Rukh Khan, may not be remembered by future generations. In a recent interview, he reflected on how fame inevitably fades, noting that audiences rarely recall stars from earlier decades. Oberoi argued that as time passes, the cultural memory of cinema shifts, and the once-celebrated eventually become distant figures in history.

He explained that while some people still hold legends like Raj Kapoor in high regard, younger audiences often relate more to contemporary actors such as Ranbir Kapoor. This, he suggested, demonstrates how each generation forms its own cinematic references. According to Oberoi, the same phenomenon may apply to today’s superstars, leading to a future where even the biggest names might be met with the question, “Who is Shah Rukh Khan?”

Sharing a philosophical view on fame, Oberoi remarked that history eventually “relegates everyone to nothingness.” His comments underline the transient nature of celebrity status, sparking debate among fans and observers about whether stardom can truly endure the passage of time. While many acknowledge the cyclical nature of popularity, others argue that certain figures leave an impact strong enough to transcend generations.

Oberoi also spoke about his personal journey before achieving recognition. Prior to his acclaimed debut in Company (2002), he worked behind the scenes with filmmaker Farah Khan, cleaning rehearsal rooms and serving tea to dancers. He revealed that he kept his identity as Suresh Oberoi’s son hidden, choosing to earn his place through hard work and dedication rather than family connections.

Looking ahead, Vivek Oberoi is set to appear in Mastiii 4, directed by Milap Zaveri. The film features an ensemble cast including Riteish Deshmukh, Aftab Shivdasani, and several others. As the fourth installment of the popular Masti franchise, the movie is scheduled for release on November 21, continuing the comedic legacy that began in 2004.
