Music composer and singer Vishal Dadlani has officially stepped away from Indian Idol after six consecutive seasons as a judge. Sharing a farewell post on Instagram on Monday, the 50-year-old artist said it was time to reclaim his time and return to his musical roots.
In a video featuring his co-judges Shreya Ghoshal and Badshah, Vishal wrote: “Alvida, yaaro. 6 seasons mein jitna mazaa kiya, uss se bhi zyada yaad aayegi.” The video, set to the track ‘Time’ by Christian 21, captures candid, light-hearted moments with his colleagues.
“Haqq se zyada pyaar milaa hai, iss show ki vajah se. Eternally grateful to everyone involved,” he added. “I hope the show will miss me as much as I’ll miss it. I’m literally only leaving because I want my time back. Can’t stay stuck in Mumbai for 6 months each year.”
In his heartfelt caption, Vishal also thanked the entire team and wrote, “Only LOVE to each and all of you with an added apology to anyone I’ve left out here. Time to get back to making music, playing concerts and never putting on make-up! It’s #VishalAndSheykhar season!!”
The announcement triggered an outpouring of love from fans and industry peers alike. “The end of an era. Indian Idol will never be the same without you, big brother,” wrote singer and host Aditya Narayan. Another fan commented, “We miss you sir and you are the superhero of Indian Idol. Please come back next season.”
Dadlani, one half of the popular music duo Vishal–Shekhar, is known for hit soundtracks in films like Om Shanti Om, War, Sultan, and Student of the Year, among many others.
