Vikram Bhatt On Mahesh Bhatt’s Silence During Arrest: “Even If I’m A Thief, He Calls Me Son”

Filmmaker Vikram Bhatt has addressed speculation about a fallout with his mentor Mahesh Bhatt following his arrest in a cheating case last year, clarifying that there is no rift between them and attributing Mahesh Bhatt’s silence during the period to a deliberate decision to avoid escalating the situation.
Speaking in an interview, Vikram Bhatt dismissed rumours of strained ties and said that Mahesh Bhatt had recently reached out to congratulate him, indicating that their communication remained intact. He suggested that the veteran filmmaker chose not to speak publicly during his legal troubles to prevent further controversy or emotional escalation.
Vikram Bhatt emphasised that Mahesh Bhatt’s silence should not be interpreted as distance or disapproval. According to him, the filmmaker believed that public statements at the time could have intensified scrutiny and added to his personal distress. He maintained that Mahesh Bhatt acted out of concern rather than detachment.

Highlighting the depth of their long-standing relationship, Vikram Bhatt used a strong personal analogy to describe their bond, stating that Mahesh Bhatt has always treated him like family. He said that their association extends beyond professional ties and is rooted in a father-son-like connection built over years of mentorship and support.
Vikram Bhatt was arrested along with his wife Shwetambari Bhatt by Rajasthan Police in December last year in connection with an alleged multi-crore cheating case linked to a proposed biopic project. He was lodged in Udaipur Central Jail before being granted regular bail by the Supreme Court in February, after which legal proceedings in the case continued.
