Varun Dhawan’s Upcoming Film Postponed by a Week, New Release June 12
Varun Dhawan’s film release delayed to June 12, makers stress industry solidarity and support.
Actor Varun Dhawan’s upcoming film, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, has been rescheduled for release on June 12, a week later than its original June 5 date, the makers announced on Tuesday. The move comes in the spirit of industry solidarity, following the postponement of Kannada superstar Yash’s film Toxic to June 4.
Directed by Varun’s father, David Dhawan, the film stars Varun Dhawan alongside Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde. Initially set for a nationwide theatrical release on June 5, the producers stated that shifting the date would avoid unnecessary competition and promote camaraderie within the film industry.
Producer Ramesh Taurani’s banner, Tips Films, shared the decision via social media, emphasizing that it is healthier for filmmakers to support each other rather than engage in overlapping release dates. “In that spirit of solidarity, we have decided to move the release of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai to June 12 and bring our film to audiences a week later,” the statement read.

The rescheduling follows the postponement of Yash’s Toxic, an action-thriller directed by Geetu Mohandas, which was originally slated for March 19 but moved to June 4 due to escalating tensions in West Asia. The film, set in Goa between the early 1940s and 1970s, aims to appeal to a global audience, according to its production banners KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations.
Reports had suggested that the Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai team was initially unhappy with the Toxic rescheduling, citing a lack of prior communication. However, the current adjustment reflects a cooperative approach between the two film teams to maximize audience reach and box-office potential.
By moving the release to June 12, the makers hope to ensure a smoother theatrical run while maintaining goodwill within the industry. The decision also allows both films to reach audiences without clashing, providing cinema-goers with clear viewing choices during the busy summer release season.
