Vaani Kapoor Slams Cancel Culture, Urges Compassion Amid Artistic Censorship Concerns

Actor decries toxicity in boycott trends

Actor Vaani Kapoor has spoken out against the pervasive cancel and boycott culture, arguing that it stifles artistic freedom and fosters toxicity. In an interview with PTI, the 36-year-old star expressed dismay over censorship and volatile public reactions, particularly following the controversy surrounding her unreleased film Abir Gulaal, co-starring Fawad Khan, which faced boycott calls after the Pahalgam terror attack in May 2025.

“I don’t get this cancel culture—say one thing wrong, and it’s ‘cancel karo, boycott karo,’” Kapoor said. “It creates boundaries for artists, limiting our ability to explore new ideas.” She highlighted how censorship, often disguised as content regulation, restricts creative risk-taking in filmmaking.

Known for roles in War and Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui, Kapoor also addressed the psychological toll of online hate, particularly on younger generations. “It leaves a psychological impact, making people doubt themselves before they’ve even discovered who they are,” she noted, urging for compassion over judgment. “We’re human, bound to make mistakes. Let’s not be so harsh—give love a chance.”
