Tusshar Kapoor Became Single Dad Without Consulting Jeetendra? “He Is Very Old School Indian”
Tusshar Kapoor reveals he never consulted his father, Jeetendra, before becoming a single dad via surrogacy.
Actor Tusshar Kapoor has revealed that he never sought his father Jeetendra’s permission before becoming a single parent through surrogacy in 2016, describing the veteran star as “very old school Indian”. The actor opened up about the deeply personal decision in a recent interview, reflecting on fatherhood and his life choices.
Tusshar, who welcomed his son Laksshya via IVF and surrogacy, said he has always respected marriage but never saw it as part of his own life plan. Instead, he felt a strong calling toward fatherhood. He noted that his upbringing and years spent living independently in the United States shaped his outlook, making him comfortable with unconventional choices.
Speaking candidly, Tusshar said raising one child has not been as overwhelming as many people assume. He added that he became a father at the age of 40, when he felt emotionally and mentally prepared. The actor also pointed out that societal pressure to marry often begins early in India, but he chose to follow his own timeline and instincts.

The decision gained momentum after a chance conversation with filmmaker Prakash Jha during a trip to Tirupati. According to Tusshar, Jha suggested that if marriage was not his path, he could consider single parenthood. That advice prompted him to consult doctors and explore the process step by step, ultimately leading to Laksshya’s birth.
Tusshar admitted he initially worried about public reaction but was relieved by the largely supportive response. He believes Indian society ultimately accepts different paths to starting a family, whether through marriage, adoption, or single parenthood.
The actor has since documented his journey in his book Bachelor Dad and says he maintains openness with his son about their family structure. He teaches Laksshya that families come in many forms and that being different does not make theirs any less valid.
