Mathura tragedy turns joyous night into mourning for three young lives.
In a heart-wrenching incident that has shocked Mathura, three cousins in their twenties lost their lives late Sunday night when the motorcycle they were riding skidded off a dark stretch of road near Radhakund and plunged into the deep, water-filled Govardhan drain, instantly transforming a journey of joy into an irreversible family tragedy.
The victims, Kanhaiya, Ankush, and Praveen, all residents of Masoom Nagar locality in Mathura city, had set out together full of excitement to attend the engagement ceremony of a close relative in Radhakund. Travelling on a single bike at around 8 pm, the trio was reportedly speeding when the vehicle suddenly veered out of control on the poorly lit road and fell into the uncovered drain swollen with rainwater.
Local residents who heard the crash and cries for help rushed to the spot and made valiant attempts to rescue the youths, but the depth of the drain and the strong current thwarted every effort. Panic-stricken villagers alerted the police, who arrived with divers and heavy machinery; it took several agonising hours to locate and retrieve the bodies along with the mangled motorcycle using a JCB.
