Sonu Sood Steps Up: Offers Rajpal Yadav Film Role Amid Rs 9-Crore Legal Crisis
Sonu Sood pledges a film role and support for Rajpal Yadav after a cheque-bounce conviction.
Actor Sonu Sood has extended public support to fellow actor Rajpal Yadav after the latter surrendered at Tihar Jail in connection with a ₹9-crore cheque-bounce case. Following the development, Sood announced that he had offered Yadav a role in one of his upcoming films, along with a signing amount, urging members of the film industry to stand by the comedian during what he described as a difficult phase.
Sonu Sood shared his message on X, praising Rajpal Yadav’s contribution to Hindi cinema and emphasising solidarity within the industry. In his post, Sood said Yadav would be part of his film and called upon producers, directors and colleagues to support the actor, stressing that professional setbacks should not overshadow years of creative work.
Describing the gesture as one of dignity rather than charity, Sood said the signing amount would be adjustable against future work. He added that the industry must ensure that artists facing personal or legal challenges do not feel isolated, framing collective support as a reflection of shared responsibility rather than sympathy.

Rajpal Yadav surrendered after the Delhi High Court refused to recall its earlier order directing him to do so following his conviction in multiple cheque-bounce cases. The court made it clear that professional background or public standing could not be grounds for special consideration in complying with judicial directions.
Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma expressed strong disapproval of Yadav’s failure to surrender on February 4, despite clear instructions. Rejecting a plea seeking additional time to arrange funds to repay the complainant, M/s Murali Projects Pvt Ltd, the court observed that the law rewards compliance, not disregard, and warned against repeatedly ignoring court orders.
The case has sparked discussion within film circles and on social media, with reactions ranging from legal scrutiny to calls for empathy. Sonu Sood’s public gesture has drawn attention for highlighting industry solidarity, even as the legal proceedings against Rajpal Yadav continue to follow due process.
