Sonakshi Sinha Admits Therapy Was the Only Thing That Stopped Her and Zaheer From Splitting

Sonakshi Sinha says couples therapy saved her relationship with Zaheer Iqbal from collapse.

Sonakshi Sinha has opened up about one of the most challenging periods in her relationship with husband Zaheer Iqbal, admitting that they once reached a point where they could barely understand each other. Despite their playful chemistry and the unwavering support they showcase in their vlogs, the couple faced serious internal struggles. Speaking to Soha Ali Khan on her podcast, the actress revealed that three years into their relationship, communication between them had broken down to the point of constant conflict.

Sonakshi explained that although they appeared effortless together publicly, their private relationship was on the verge of collapse. She described a phase in which both she and Zaheer felt overwhelmed and frustrated, unable to relate to each other’s emotional perspectives. It was during this difficult period that Zaheer suggested trying couples therapy—an idea Sonakshi agreed to reluctantly but wholeheartedly. Their determination to save the bond they had built over years inspired them to seek professional help.

The actress shared that therapy transformed their relationship almost immediately. Within just two sessions, they noticed drastic improvements in communication and clarity. Sonakshi emphasized how therapy taught them to understand each other’s thought processes better, and to recognize that spoken words often carry deeper meanings. Small lessons, like learning where the other person was coming from or responding with patience during triggering moments, brought them closer than ever.

She also highlighted that effective communication is only possible when both partners genuinely want the relationship to work. The tools they learned—like knowing when to step back, what phrases to avoid, and how to calm down during disagreements—proved crucial in rebuilding their connection. Soha Ali Khan, listening to the confession, echoed Sonakshi’s sentiments about the importance of communication and emotional awareness in long-term relationships.

Sonakshi and Zaheer tied the knot on June 23, 2024, in an intimate civil ceremony held at her Mumbai home. The couple chose a simple registered marriage followed by a star-studded reception, prioritizing meaningful celebration over lavish rituals. Despite receiving criticism for their interfaith union, the pair remained united and confident in their bond, consistently showing support for each other both personally and professionally.

Today, the couple is admired for their genuine affection and authenticity, with fans drawn to their openness about love, conflict, and healing. Sonakshi’s revelation about couples therapy not only sheds light on the reality behind their relationship but also encourages young couples to seek help when needed. What began as a moment of crisis ultimately strengthened their foundation, making them one of Bollywood's most beloved modern couples.
