Shekhar Suman Recalls Rejecting Shah Rukh Khan’s Payment Offer For Chalte Chalte

Veteran actor and television personality Shekhar Suman has recalled a warm gesture from Bollywood Superstar Shah Rukh Khan during their brief collaboration on the 2003 film Chalte Chalte. Speaking about his experience in a recent interview, Suman shared how SRK’s thoughtful gestures left a lasting impression on him.
Suman revealed that he had lent his voice for the narration in the promotional teaser of Chalte Chalte, which starred Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukerji. He recounted that SRK personally reached out to him after the teaser work, inviting him to record the voiceover. According to Suman, the interaction was informal and friendly, reflecting SRK’s approachable nature.
The actor further shared that after completing the work, Shah Rukh Khan sent him a cheque as remuneration. However, Suman said he declined to accept the payment, describing the contribution as something done “between friends” rather than for financial gain. He emphasised that he did not expect compensation for the brief collaboration.

Despite his refusal, Suman noted that Shah Rukh Khan insisted on showing appreciation. The actor revealed that SRK later sent him an expensive watch as a token of gratitude. Suman said he still preserves the watch as a cherished memento, calling it a meaningful reminder of their interaction.
Beyond this anecdote, Suman also reflected on his long-standing admiration for the film industry and his occasional regret over missed opportunities, including not being part of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Devdas. He noted that while he could not take up certain roles in the past, he eventually fulfilled his creative aspirations through later projects, including Heeramandi.
