Veteran filmmaker Shekhar Kapur has expressed his eagerness to collaborate with Hollywood actor Matt Damon after the Oscar-winning star recently revealed he had long wanted to work with the acclaimed Indian director. The exchange comes more than two decades after the pair narrowly missed the opportunity to collaborate on The Four Feathers in 2002. Kapur said he would gladly work with Damon, describing him as one of the finest actors of his generation.
Responding to Damon's recent remarks, Kapur praised the actor's exceptional emotional range and screen presence. He said there was hardly any filmmaker in the world who would not want the opportunity to direct an actor of Damon's calibre. Highlighting the actor's memorable performance in Good Will Hunting, Kapur recalled being deeply moved by the famous "It's not your fault" scene with Robin Williams, saying he had watched it countless times and found it emotionally powerful on every occasion.
The filmmaker agreed with Damon's suggestion that the time had finally come for them to work together after their missed opportunity more than two decades ago. Their paths were originally expected to cross during the production of The Four Feathers, but the collaboration never materialised. Despite that, both have continued to express admiration for each other's work over the years, keeping alive the possibility of a future project.
