SC Rap Forces Neeraj Pandey To Withdraw ‘Ghooskhor Pandat’ Title

Filmmaker Neeraj Pandey has withdrawn the title of his upcoming film Ghooskhor Pandat after facing sharp observations from the Supreme Court of India over concerns that the name could stigmatise a community.

The controversy arose after petitions were filed objecting to the use of the word “Pandat” in the film’s title, arguing that it appeared to target or stereotype a particular caste group. During the hearing, the Supreme Court reportedly questioned the intent behind the title and cautioned against content that could hurt community sentiments or disturb social harmony.

Following the court’s remarks, Pandey informed the bench that the filmmakers would voluntarily withdraw the contested title. The court’s intervention effectively prompted the production team to reconsider branding and avoid prolonged legal complications. No further coercive directions were issued once the filmmaker agreed to make the change.
