Riteish Deshmukh Snaps At Query Involving Friends Salman Khan And Sanjay Dutt
Actor reacts sharply to question involving close friends.
Actor Riteish Deshmukh found himself at the centre of attention during the launch event of Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa after responding sharply to a question about whether he would like to see close friends Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt participate in the reality show. The question, which referenced the actors' past legal controversies, appeared to irritate Riteish, who made it clear that he did not appreciate the remark.
The event, held in Mumbai on Monday, was attended by Riteish Deshmukh, filmmaker Farah Khan, producer Ekta Kapoor and Monika Shergill, Vice President of Content at Netflix India. The launch marked the official introduction of Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa, a reality-based format that is expected to feature contestants facing challenges and intense public scrutiny. During a media interaction, reporters posed a variety of questions about the show's concept, participants and Riteish's role as host.
One question, however, stood out from the rest. A media representative asked Riteish whether he would like Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt to appear on the show, suggesting that the two actors had significant experience of being in a "lock up" due to their past legal troubles. The reporter also went on to ask how Riteish would punish them if they became contestants on the programme.

The actor was visibly unimpressed by the question and immediately distanced himself from it. Responding firmly, Riteish said, “Sabse pehle mujhe nahin lagta hai ki aapke sawal ka jawab deke main usko koi dignity dena chahunga,” which translates to, “First of all, I don't think I'd like to dignify your question by answering it.” His response drew attention from those present at the event and quickly became one of the most discussed moments of the launch.
Despite his initial refusal to engage with the premise of the question, Riteish was asked again whether he would consider bringing Salman Khan or Sanjay Dutt onto the show. This time, the actor clarified that he has no role in deciding who participates in the reality series. He explained that contestant selection is handled by the show's creators and production team, while his responsibility is limited to hosting and interacting with the participants.
“I’ll not bring them as my duty is to host. And as a host, I don’t know about the inmates that would appear on the show,” Riteish said. He further added that his role involves communicating with contestants and guests who appear on the programme rather than influencing casting decisions. According to him, hosts typically engage with participants once they become part of the show and are not involved in the selection process.
The exchange highlighted Riteish's discomfort with questions that touch on personal relationships and past controversies involving his friends. Both Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt have faced legal challenges that have been widely reported over the years, but Riteish appeared unwilling to entertain references to those incidents in a public setting, particularly during an event focused on promoting a new entertainment programme.
Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa is expected to generate significant interest among viewers, with Riteish Deshmukh taking on hosting duties for the show. While the event featured discussions about the format, contestants and expectations surrounding the series, it was Riteish's candid response to the controversial question that ultimately emerged as one of the most talked-about moments from the launch.
