Riddhima Kapoor Clarifies Rishi Kapoor Never Opposed Her Acting Career
Riddhima Kapoor denies claims about Rishi Kapoor opposing her career.
Riddhima Kapoor has addressed long-standing speculation that her late father, veteran actor Rishi Kapoor, was against her joining the film industry, firmly rejecting the narrative that he would not have supported her career in cinema. She made the clarification during a recent interview, following the release of her debut film Daadi Ki Shaadi, in which she stars alongside her mother, Neetu Kapoor.
Responding to questions about whether Rishi Kapoor would have approved of her acting debut, Riddhima said the perception that she was discouraged from entering films was incorrect. She stated that her father was protective but never restrictive when it came to her career choices, and would have guided her if she had chosen to pursue acting professionally.
Riddhima explained that while her father was initially anxious about her going abroad for higher studies at a young age, he ultimately supported her decision. Recalling the experience, she said Rishi Kapoor was concerned when she decided to study in the United Kingdom at around 16 or 17 years old, but eventually allowed her to pursue her plans after careful consideration.

She added that her father always encouraged her to do her best in whatever path she chose. According to Riddhima, Rishi Kapoor had confidence in her abilities and would have extended the same support had she chosen to enter films earlier. She emphasised that he would have actively guided her rather than obstructing her career ambitions.
Riddhima also dismissed the widespread belief that members of film families are often restricted from working in the industry. She said her personal experience did not align with such assumptions, noting that her father’s approach was rooted in trust and encouragement rather than limitation or control.
Daadi Ki Shaadi, a family comedy-drama directed by Ashish R. Mohan, marks Riddhima Kapoor’s debut in films and was released recently. The project also features Neetu Kapoor, bringing the mother-daughter duo together on screen for the first time in a full-length feature.
