Ranveer Singh Apologizes Following Controversy Over ‘Kantara’ Act at IFFI 2025
Ranveer Singh apologizes after IFFI performance of Kantara scene sparks backlash.
Actor Ranveer Singh has publicly apologized after receiving significant criticism for mimicking a scene from Rishab Shetty’s film Kantara during the closing ceremony of the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) held in Goa. Singh’s imitation of the Daiva act from Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1, performed in an exaggerated manner, drew sharp reactions on social media, especially after he referred to the cultural figure as a “ghost.”
Singh took to Instagram to clarify his intentions, stating that his performance was meant to honor Shetty’s powerful portrayal in the film. He expressed admiration for Shetty’s dedication and apologized sincerely if anyone felt offended, emphasizing his respect for India’s diverse cultures and traditions.
The controversy intensified after reports surfaced that Singh continued to mimic the Daiva act even after Shetty, who was present at the event, politely requested him to stop. Additionally, Singh’s comment on stage about potentially appearing in Kantara’s third installment added to the public’s disapproval. Some fans called for a boycott of his upcoming film Dhurandhar, which releases soon.
