Ranbir Kapoor Discusses Yash's Ravana Character In Ramayana Adaptation

Ranbir praises Yash's unique portrayal of Ravana.

Actor Ranbir Kapoor has praised Yash’s portrayal of Ravana in Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming epic film “Ramayana”, saying the character has been presented with a fresh perspective rather than following traditional stereotypes. Speaking during the film’s panel discussion at the San Diego Comic Con, Ranbir highlighted Yash’s screen presence, personality, and approach to the role, describing him as the right choice to bring the legendary character to life.

Discussing his experience of working with Yash, Ranbir said the two actors have not yet filmed their major confrontation scenes as Lord Rama and Ravana. However, he said he has admired Yash’s work for a long time and believed that the role required an actor with a strong aura and global appeal. According to Ranbir, Yash’s stardom and presence were important elements in portraying such a powerful character.

Ranbir explained that Yash had approached Ravana with confidence, intensity, and authenticity. He said the character in the upcoming adaptation differs from the commonly seen portrayals of Ravana over the years. Ranbir praised Yash’s performance for bringing a sense of depth and individuality to the role, suggesting that audiences would see a different interpretation of the antagonist from previous versions of the epic.

Yash also spoke about the making of the film and said the team’s intention was the most important factor behind the project. The Kannada star said that adapting a story as significant as the Ramayana came with technical and creative challenges, including complex costumes, makeup, and visual elements. However, he expressed confidence that the team had worked sincerely to present the story in an authentic manner.

The much-awaited trailer of “Ramayana” was expected to be launched globally during the San Diego Comic Con event but was postponed indefinitely. Producer Namit Malhotra announced that the trailer would now be released at a later date, describing the project as an opportunity to introduce Indian culture and storytelling to audiences worldwide. He said the film aims to achieve a scale comparable to major global cinematic productions.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, “Ramayana” is planned as a two-part epic film, with the first instalment scheduled for a theatrical release in November. The film features Ranbir as Lord Rama and Yash as Ravana, along with Sai Pallavi as Sita and a large ensemble cast including Sunny Deol, Ravie Dubey, Rakul Preet Singh, Lara Dutta, Arun Govil, Vivek Oberoi, and Kunal Kapoor. The project is among the most ambitious Indian mythological films currently in production.
