Ramayana Trailer: Internet Hails Yash's Ravana as Epic Screen Presence

Ramayana trailer release triggers massive online praise for Yash's Ravana performance.

The much-awaited trailer of Ramayana was unveiled on Thursday, generating widespread reactions across social media as fans praised the film’s scale, visuals and performances. The trailer, which was delayed from its originally planned launch at San Diego Comic-Con last week, offered audiences their first extended look at director Nitesh Tiwari’s adaptation of the Indian epic. While introducing several key characters, the trailer notably did not feature Sunny Deol’s Hanuman, leaving fans anticipating his appearance in the film’s future promotional material.

Much of the online discussion centred on the face-off between Ranbir Kapoor, who plays Lord Rama, and Yash, who portrays Ravana. Social media users particularly praised Yash’s commanding screen presence, with many describing his performance as intense and powerful despite playing the film’s primary antagonist. Several viewers highlighted his voice modulation, expressions and overall aura, suggesting that Ravana could emerge as one of the film’s most memorable characters.

Fans also applauded the trailer’s visual storytelling, pointing to sequences featuring Ravana’s backstory, Mata Sita’s journey and large-scale battle scenes. The trailer’s detailed depiction of mythical creatures, cinematic action and expansive world-building received positive feedback, with viewers saying the film appears to blend devotion with high-end visual effects. Many posts described the project as “absolute cinema” and praised its ambitious attempt to bring the ancient epic to life on an unprecedented scale.

Among the trailer’s most talked-about moments were the Ravana versus Jatayu battle, the Shiva Dhanush sequence, and the visuals of the Pushpak Vimaan and Airavat. Viewers also praised the work of visual effects company DNEG, with many expressing confidence that the film could set a new benchmark for Indian cinema if it lives up to the expectations created by the trailer. Several users described the production as a cinematic event rather than just another film release.

Ramayana is one of the most expensive film projects ever undertaken in India, with producer Namit Malhotra previously stating that the combined budget for both instalments is approximately ₹4,000 crore. According to Malhotra, the project has been in development for several years with the aim of creating a globally competitive adaptation of the epic while maintaining financial discipline. The film also marks the first collaboration between Academy Award-winning composer Hans Zimmer and Indian music legend A.R. Rahman.

The epic adaptation will be released in two parts, with the first instalment scheduled to arrive in cinemas worldwide ahead of Diwali in October 2026, while the second part is planned for release during Diwali 2027. Featuring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama and Yash as Ravana, the film has already emerged as one of the most anticipated Indian releases of the year, with the trailer’s overwhelmingly positive online reception further raising expectations for its theatrical debut.
