Rajpal Yadav Responds to Criticism Over His Cheque Bounce Conviction

Rajpal Yadav responds to criticism over his legal troubles.

Actor Rajpal Yadav has spoken out against attempts to diminish his professional reputation because of his recent financial and legal troubles. Describing himself as a dedicated student and practitioner of Indian cinema, Yadav said personal difficulties should not be used to judge his entire body of work. He also pointed to his continued popularity among audiences, saying that he still receives significant attention from fans wherever he travels.

Speaking to ANI, Yadav reflected on his long career and said his association with cinema goes beyond financial considerations. He argued that financial problems should not determine how an artist's entire career is viewed. The actor said he has remained committed to his craft for decades and stressed that his identity as an artist cannot simply be measured through money, disputes or temporary setbacks.

Yadav also highlighted the continuing affection he receives from the public. He claimed that hundreds of fans approach him for photographs at airports, even during difficult periods in his personal life. The actor used this as an example of the relationship he believes he has built with audiences through his work. He further said that money has never been the primary reason behind his association with acting and that his commitment to cinema has remained central to his career.

The actor said he intends to continue working and contributing to the industry despite the challenges he has faced. Referring to himself as a "priest" of theatre and films, Yadav said he wants his work over the years to ultimately speak for itself. He acknowledged that rebuilding his professional standing may take time but insisted that he has never considered himself defeated, whether the setback involved filmmaking, property or his career.

Yadav's comments come after a series of legal difficulties connected to financial disputes. In July, the Delhi High Court upheld convictions and sentences involving Yadav and his wife, Radha Yadav, in multiple cheque-dishonour cases linked to a dispute with Murli Projects Pvt. Ltd. The court had earlier provided opportunities for the actor to comply with undertakings, but proceedings eventually led to directions for him to surrender before jail authorities. Yadav spent several days in custody before being released after making a partial repayment to the complainant.

Despite the legal controversy, Yadav continues to remain active in the Hindi film industry. He was most recently seen in Welcome to the Jungle alongside Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and other actors, and also appeared in Bhooth Bangla, another film featuring Akshay Kumar. With a career spanning several decades and a reputation built largely through comic and supporting roles, Yadav has maintained that his professional contribution should be judged on his artistic work rather than solely on his recent financial difficulties.
