When asked specifically about Vijay’s elevation to the Chief Minister’s post, the veteran actor did not offer any verbal reaction.
The moment comes days after Vijay, chief of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu following a decisive electoral victory. He took oath at Chennai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium after meeting Governor R.N. Arlekar at Raj Bhavan. The Governor had reportedly rescheduled his travel plans to Kerala to oversee the swearing-in ceremony.
Vijay’s political rise has marked a significant shift in Tamil Nadu’s electoral landscape, with his party securing a majority by winning 108 seats in its debut Assembly election. With the support of allied legislators, TVK’s strength reportedly reached 120 MLAs in the 234-member House, crossing the majority mark of 118 and enabling the formation of the government.

The outcome ended the dominance of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), which have traditionally been the two major political forces in the state. Vijay’s victory has drawn comparisons with earlier actor-turned-political leaders such as M.G. Ramachandran, J. Jayalalithaa, and N.T. Rama Rao.
Rajinikanth had earlier congratulated Vijay on May 4, following the election results, praising the TVK leader and his party for their electoral success.
