Raja Shivaji Crosses ₹100 Crore, Nears Sairat’s All-Time Box Office Record
Raja Shivaji crosses ₹100 crore, nearing Sairat’s all-time Marathi record.
Marathi historical drama Raja Shivaji has reached a major box office milestone, becoming only the second Marathi film to cross the ₹100 crore mark worldwide. The Riteish Deshmukh-starrer has now entered an elite commercial category previously achieved only by Nagraj Manjule’s landmark film Sairat, which had set the benchmark for the industry in 2016.
The achievement marks a significant moment for Marathi cinema, which had taken over a century to reach the ₹100 crore global box office threshold with Sairat and had not seen a comparable success in the decade that followed. Raja Shivaji’s strong performance has now revived discussions around the commercial potential of large-scale Marathi productions.
The film, based on the life and legacy of Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, opened on a strong note, earning over ₹30 crore net in its first weekend. It maintained steady momentum through the weekdays, closing its first week at ₹52.65 crore net and reaching ₹77 crore by the end of its second week, reflecting sustained audience interest.
In its third weekend, Raja Shivaji witnessed renewed traction at the box office, adding approximately ₹7.60 crore net. After 17 days, its domestic total stands at around ₹84.55 crore net, translating to roughly ₹100 crore gross worldwide. The absence of an overseas release, common for most Marathi films, makes the achievement more notable in domestic-driven earnings terms.
Industry trackers noted that the film also collected around ₹4 crore gross on Sunday alone, with expectations of an additional ₹5 crore gross in the following days before entering its fourth weekend. Given its current momentum, trade analysts suggest the film could further strengthen its position in the coming weeks.
With this performance, Raja Shivaji is now positioned as a defining commercial success for contemporary Marathi cinema, narrowing the gap with Sairat and potentially setting new benchmarks for future large-scale regional productions.
