Priyanka Chopra Reveals Terrifying Risk in Leaving Bollywood for Hollywood

Priyanka Chopra calls her move from Bollywood to Hollywood at 30 a terrifying risk despite being secure and established.

Priyanka Chopra recently spoke candidly about the “terrifying” decision she made to leave a flourishing Bollywood career and venture into Hollywood at the age of 30. “I was secure. I was doing well financially. I was established. And I chose to blow it up,” the 43-year-old former Miss World said, reflecting on the risks she took to pursue a global career.

Chopra moved to the US around 2015 after major Bollywood successes including Mary Kom (2014), Dil Dhadakne Do (2015), and Bajirao Mastani (2015). She admitted facing stereotypes and preconceived notions in Hollywood, with many questioning her ability despite her fluency in English and international recognition.

Her early days in the West were marked by vulnerability, as she initially explored singing before re-establishing herself as a screen actress. Chopra emphasized her goal of creating “borderless entertainment” and working with actors across countries rather than being limited to novelty casting roles.

Priyanka’s Hollywood breakthrough came with the lead role in the TV series Quantico (2015-2018), followed by supporting roles in films like Baywatch (2017) and The Matrix Resurrections (2021). She later starred in major productions such as Heads of State (2025) and is set to appear in the pirate adventure The Bluff alongside Karl Urban.

She is also returning for Season 2 of Amazon’s Citadel and will make her comeback to Indian cinema with SS Rajamouli’s Varanasi, featuring Mahesh Babu and Prithviraj Sukumaran. The film, a time-traveling adventure rooted in Indian history, marks her first Hindi release since The Sky Is Pink (2019).

Priyanka’s journey highlights her ambition to transcend cultural and cinematic boundaries, establishing herself as one of the few actors to successfully bridge Bollywood and Hollywood while tackling challenges of typecasting and industry expectations.
