Priyanka Chopra Applauds Owen Cooper’s Groundbreaking Emmy Triumph At 15
Owen Cooper, 15, becomes the youngest Emmy winner for the Netflix series Adolescence.
Bollywood icon Priyanka Chopra expressed delight over 15-year-old British actor Owen Cooper's groundbreaking Emmy victory, sharing a celebratory video on Instagram from the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards. The global star posted footage of Cooper receiving the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie award for his role in Netflix's 'Adolescence,' captioning it with emojis conveying joy and pride. Chopra's gesture highlights the international acclaim for Cooper's debut performance, which has captivated audiences worldwide.
Cooper, portraying troubled teen Jamie Miller in the single-shot miniseries, became the youngest male actor to win an Emmy in any acting category, surpassing Scott Jacoby's 1973 record at age 16 for 'That Certain Summer.' He also broke Michael A. Goorjian's category-specific mark from 1994, when Goorjian was 23. The Netflix drama, Netflix's second-most-watched English-language series with over 141 million views in its first three months, explores themes of trauma and family dynamics, co-starring Stephen Graham—who also won for lead actor—and Ashley Walters.
In his emotional acceptance speech at the Peacock Theater, Cooper reflected on his rapid rise: "Wow, it's so surreal. Honestly, when I started these drama classes a couple of years ago, I didn't expect to be even in the United States, never mind here. I think tonight proves that if you listen and focus and step out of your comfort zone, you can achieve anything in life. I was nothing three years ago, and I'm here now." He humbly added, "It says my name on the statue, but it really belongs to all of the people who worked on the show." Cooper edged out nominees including Javier Bardem ('Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story'), Rob Delaney ('Dying for Sex'), Peter Sarsgaard and Bill Camp ('Presumed Innocent'), and co-star Walters.

Cooper's win, filmed when he was just 14, underscores 'Adolescence's' critical success, which garnered six Emmys overall, including writing and directing. Priyanka's endorsement amplifies the teen's milestone, inspiring young talents globally. As Cooper eyes future projects like a 2026 'Wuthering Heights' adaptation, his achievement cements a new era for child actors in prestige television.
