Prem Chopra Admitted to Mumbai Hospital Due to Viral Infection
Prem Chopra hospitalized in Mumbai for viral infection; doctors confirm he is recovering under specialist care.
Legendary Bollywood actor Prem Chopra, 92, was admitted to Lilavati Hospital on November 8, 2025, after contracting a viral infection that affected his lungs. The veteran star, known for his unforgettable villain roles in over 380 films, is under the care of cardiologist Dr Nitin Gokhale and pulmonologist Dr Jalil Parkar. Despite his age and history of cardiac issues, Chopra is stable and recovering in a general ward, with doctors confirming no need for intensive care. Family members and medical staff have expressed optimism, stating that the actor is responding well to treatment and is expected to be discharged within three to four days.
Dr Jalil Parkar told reporters on Monday that Chopra’s recovery is progressing steadily. “He is doing well and should be fine in another three or four days; he will go home then,” he said. The infection, described as routine but requiring close monitoring due to the actor’s advanced age, has not escalated into a critical condition. Actor Sharman Joshi, Chopra’s son-in-law, further reassured fans, saying, “All good, thank you. Just some tests, back tomorrow.” The hospital has maintained strict privacy protocols, limiting media access while ensuring regular updates through official channels.
Prem Chopra’s career spans six decades, beginning with his debut in the 1960 Punjabi film Chaudhary Karnail Singh. He gained national fame with Hindi cinema in the late 1960s, becoming synonymous with suave, menacing antagonists in films like Upkar (1967), Do Raaste (1969), and Kati Patang (1971). His iconic dialogue delivery and expressive eyes made him a favourite foil to superstars such as Rajesh Khanna, Dharmendra, and Amitabh Bachchan. Even in later years, Chopra remained active, appearing in character roles in films like Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year (2009) and Animal (2023), earning respect for his versatility and professionalism.

The news of his hospitalisation has sparked an outpouring of concern and support from fans, co-stars, and industry bodies. Veteran actors Jeetendra and Kabir Bedi praised Chopra as a “pillar of Hindi cinema”, while social media trended with messages under hashtags like #GetWellSoonPremChopra. The Cine and TV Artistes’ Association (CINTAA) issued a statement urging better healthcare access for senior artists, many of whom continue working without adequate medical insurance. This incident highlights the physical toll on ageing performers who remain dedicated to their craft despite health challenges.
As Chopra nears discharge, attention turns to his post-recovery routine and potential return to work. Known for his discipline and passion for acting, the actor has often spoken about staying relevant through selective roles. Doctors have advised rest and follow-up consultations, but those close to him say his spirit remains unbroken. With a legacy that continues to inspire new generations, Prem Chopra’s brief health scare serves as a reminder of the enduring human stories behind Bollywood’s larger-than-life icons.
