Preity Zinta Shuts Down Politics Entry Rumours
Rumours of her political entry surfaced after she took a holy dip at the Maha Kumbh Mela and visited Varanasi’s Kashi Vishwanath temple during Mahashivratri.
Actor Preity Zinta has dismissed speculation about a political debut, clarifying that her recent temple visits and spiritual activities are personal, not political.
Zinta, who now lives in Los Angeles with her husband Gene Goodenough and their twins, is set to return to Hindi cinema after a seven-year hiatus with Rajkumar Santoshi’s ‘Lahore 1947’. Rumours of her political entry surfaced after she took a holy dip at the Maha Kumbh Mela and visited Varanasi’s Kashi Vishwanath temple during Mahashivratri.
During a Q&A on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday night, a user asked if she was planning to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Zinta responded firmly: “That’s the problem with people on social media—everybody has become so judgemental. Going to a temple or Maha Kumbh and being proud of who I am and my identity does not equate with joining politics or the BJP.”

Reflecting on her time abroad, the Veer-Zaara actor added, “Living outside India has made me realise the true value of my home country. Like everyone else, I appreciate India and all things Indian much more now.”
In a follow-up post, Zinta shared her reasons for raising her children in the Hindu faith. “Since my husband is agnostic, we are bringing up our kids as Hindus. I face constant criticism and my simple joy is being politicised. I shouldn’t have to keep justifying who I am or my pride in teaching my kids about their roots.”
Concluding her message with warmth, she wrote, “Chalo, time to move on… Sending you lots of love and best wishes.”
